Around the world, LGBTQIA+ people can face discrimination and violence. Some are forced to flee their homes because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Others flee conflict or disaster and, even after seeking asylum, may face additional risks. These can be compounded by xenophobia, financial hardship, isolation from support networks and emotional stress.
The UN Refugee Agency recognises the unique challenges LGBTQIA+ refugees face and helps them find safety and protection wherever possible.
